Occupancy of a building - A permit is required for each new owner of a property.  It is the responsibility of the property owner to obtain a Use & Occupancy permit when ownership changes. Please contact the Borough office to make an appointment for a Use & Occupancy inspection. Rental Unit inspections are performed every three years or upon change in tenant.

Alterations, renovations or modifications of existing buildings such as plumbing, HVAC,  and electrical work.

Contractor Registration Information
As of July 1, 2009, all home improvement contractors who perform at least $5,000 worth of home improvements per year must register with the Attorney General's Office.  This registration is valid for two years and must be renewed every two years.  This registration is mandated by the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act 132 passed in 2008.

1. What are the setbacks for building or structure accessory (shed,etc.) to a dwelling? You are required to fill out a zoning permit to install a shed. The fee is $30.00.
The setbacks for side and rear yards for lots measuring:
               Less than 10,000 square feet = 3 feet
               Between 10,000 and 20,000 square feet = 10 feet
               More than 20,000 square feet = 20 feet
2. Does Pennsburg Borough do property surveys?
No, we do not survey properties. Please contact a local surveyor.
3. What are the regulations for installing a fence on my property?
A zoning permit is required to install a fence on your property.  Click on "zoning permit application" below, print out ,and return with the Fence Permit fee of $30.00 to Pennsburg Borough.  You can also pick up a permit at the Borough Office, 76 West 6th Street.
        -The maximum allowed height for fences is 6 feet.
        -A fence may be installed on the property line. 
        -The maximum height for a fence installed in the sight triangle of an  
         
intersection is 2 1/2 feet.
4. If I am selling my house/property, what is required by Pennsburg Borough?
If you are selling your house/property, a Use and Occupancy inspection is required along with a fee of $75.00.  You can access the form below or pick one up at the borough office. Please contact the Borough office to schedule the inspection at 215-679-4546.

6. What is the Borough policy on weed removal?
 Borough Ordinance requires that properties within the Borough limits keep all grass and weeds below a maximum height of eight inches.  Anyone found in violation of this regulation will be subject to penalties and possible fines.
7. What is the Borough policy on snow removal?
Borough Ordinance requires that property owners or occupants remove snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours after snow or freezing rain has ceased to fall.  Failure to comply with this Ordinance can result in penalties and possible fines.
8. How many trash bags can I put out per week?
Four bags of trash per household per week is permitted with a 40 pound weight limit per bag. Trash must be placed in Pennsburg Borough bags. To find out more trash and recycling information, go the streets and public works link.  Streets & Public Works
9. What is the policy on installing a swimming pool?
A Building Permit is required to install a swimming pool. Temporary season pools require a Zoning Permit.  If you are installing a swimming pool that is in-ground or less than four feet in height or capable of holding a depth of 24" of water, you are required to install a fence no less than four feet in height encompassing the entire swimming pool. This applies to all pools. 
10.Are inspections required on rental units?
Yes, inspections are required on rental units.  Rental inspections will take place every three years or upon a change in tenant.  See the Fee Schedule for inspection costs.
